What is the big freakin' deal?!?

Ok so on my Facebook page I wanted to put my first, maiden and married name in that order. So anyone who doesn't know I'm married can find me. No harm, no foul, right? Wrong! My FIL flips his lid, saying i'm disrespecting his family and his name. WTF?! Has anyone ever heard of this crap where apparently it's wrong to include your maiden name on your facebook page? It's not like I go by my maiden name in everyday life, it's just for search. If I'm so wrong then so is everyone else on Facebook. What is he talking about? I was not raised to think that was wrong, can someone make sense of this?
