Help, my hotmail account won't let me in.?

For some reason unknown to me I can not get into my hotmail acount. I'm using the right ID and pword, though it says incorrect. I did wright it down, is there a time limit that it shuts down the account if you don't use it ? As it has been about 2 yrs since I ast logged on. Help as there is an e-mail from about that time ago that I need the copy of, cheers for reading my plee.
