My eyes are allergic to my contacts!?

so my eyes have been really red and stingy for the past weeks and i never had this problem before when i first started wearing soft lens. so i went to the doctor and she got me to go to a specialist who told me that i was allergic to the brand of monthly soft lens i had and i would have to change to daily's cuz i can't wear monthlys for too long though they're monthlies.. anyways. yeah, so i was just wondering if anyone else has had this or heard of this before and could this actually happen?
