1998 s10 2.2l standard, seatbelt light blinking ?

I have a 1998 s10 2.2l 5 speed, occasionally the seatbelt light will start blinking......when i unhook the seatbelt altogether the light stays on solid. Any ideas why its blinking when it hooked up ?
